New year, new blog, new approach

New year. new blog, new approach. Just what the world needs, another blog...

However given that there's a lot going on around the issue of where local action meets the global environmental crisis (which is what I work on) then maybe there's room for one more.

Localglobalgreen will highlight (and perhaps critique) interesting stuff. Some of it may be work I'm directly or indirectly involved in, some will certainly be from all over the planet. There's likely to be a strong focus on where environmental issues meet social justice: you call it sustainable dveelopment or you can call it environmental justice (or both). There'll certainly be a focus on London (which is where I live and do a lot of work) and that's likely to focus on areas like Hackney Wick, Hainault or Barking as much as it will cover London-wide issues.

Coming up in the near future (based on work I'm doing):
* Full information on the report from the London 21 network on what London's local councils are doing about climate change
* An introduction to 'Changed places, Changed lives' - a report for BTCV on the social impacts of environmnental projects (some interesting stuff on how getting involved in the environment changes you as wqell as the environment)
* An update on how local communities are using GIS to map the quality of their local environments and more
* An overview of some issues around training people to get active on climate change
* A preview of a report on what's going on around climate change in Eastern Europe (very local if you live in Ukraine...)

And remember 'no matter where you live, everyone's local'....
So stay in touch, and check the site now and then. Feedback welcome!

You can find more about what I do on my website (www.suscom.org) - (other new year's resolution is to keep that site up to date...)
